9th May 2008
Crew left their beds just before midnight in response to their pagers. A red distress flare had been sighted upstream of Loughor bridge. The boat was launched and conducted a search. White ‘para’ flares were deployed to illuminate the search area by the crew and by Loughor coastguard coastal rescue team. Due to the falling tide it was necessary for the boat to follow the channels of the estuary – even then, depth was only 5 feet! A police helicopter joined the search and as they arrived on scene, a second flare was sighted over the Gorseinon area. Having established that the flares were fired from land, the crew were stood down and returned to station.
