The annual fireworks evening at Loughor Boating Club was enjoyed by all, helping to raise funds for us and the Welsh Air Ambulance.

23/10/11

Over 300 anglers turned out on a wet and very windy day for the Welsh Flounder Cup.
This annual event over the years has raised more than £20,000 for the lifeboat.

New Lodge Independent (British Legion) Ladies Bowls Club, Gorseinon; presented Loughor Inshore Rescue with a cheque for £700.

Officers attended the South Wales Police Authority Volunteer of the Year Awards 2011. Loughor Inshore Rescue received a commendation from Councillor Russell Roberts, Chairman of the Police Authority.

Loughor Guides attended the station. They were shown the boat on the water, the equipment we use and a presentation on the background of the lifeboat.

27/09/11

Five officers and crew were invited to a Gower and LLwchwr Rotary meeting at the Gower Golf Club, Three Crosses. After the meal, Loughor Inshore Rescue were presented with a Cheque for £2000. This was raised in various ways, including a raffle.

A member of Hafod Brotherhood visited the station. Unfortunately due to them having to disband all assets had to be donated to other charities. Loughor Inshore Rescue accepted a cheque for £1000.

After another successful Festival of the Tides in Penclawdd we managed to raise £218.57 and and another kind donation of £175 Making a grant total for the event to £393.57. Thank you to all who attended and donated.

7th September 2011

Crew were paged at 12: 41 to attend two persons in danger of being cut off by the incoming tide, the persons were hesitant about coming off the bank and Loughor Mobile Coastguard advised the persons over the radio via the Lifeboat of their concerns. Persons were then relocated to a safer area to carry on fishing.
The lifeboat was washed down and re-fuelled and back on service at 13:30
Services involved: Swansea Coastguard, Loughor Mobile Coastguard & Loughor Lifeboat.

25th August 2011

Crew were woken from their beds at 05:30 to assist in a search for vulnerable person who had made a call to the Police. The Lifeboat was launched at 05:40 at 05:50 the boat was stood down as Police had located the person, safe and well.
The lifeboat was washed down and re-fuelled and back on service at 06:15
Services involved: Loughor Coastguard, South Wales Police.

23rd August 2011

Crew were paged at 13:55 to a 4 man Jet-ski run aground opposite Gate Inn Holiday park, two persons on board one being 10 year old. The persons were on holiday from Wrexham. They were picked up by the lifeboat at 14:10 and returned to the Lifeboat Station where the boy’s mother was waiting for them then Loughor Coastguard met them back at the Gate Inn. Burry Port RNLI was also launched to assist.
The lifeboat was washed down and re-fuelled and back on service at 14:50pm.
The following tide the jet-ski was recovered by the Lifeboat with the owner.

4th August 2011

Crew were paged at 21:40 by Swansea Coastguard to two casualities cut off by the tide up river of the Loughor Boating Club. They had become lost and had no idea under darkness where they were apart from being alongside the Loughor Estuary which was flooding under a high 7.9 metre tide. Giving visual bearing of the Motorway bridge, a pylon and a small pond Swansea Coastguard used their local knowledge to co-ordinate a search & rescue pattern for the Loughor Rescue Boat. As soon as the boat commenced the search the crew saw a bright light flashing in the SOS pattern. They closed in to the location. Just as The lifeboat crew obained visual sight of the casualties. RAF Rescue 169 arrived on scene. The helicopter then proceeded to pick up both casualties. They then landed in a nearby carpark and liased with the Loughor Coastguard Unit. Both casualities were unharmed and were reunited with their families.

Crew were paged at 21:06 to a report of 4 Persons cut off at the millennium coastal park,

All went well as all was brought back safely

Boat recovered 22:00 back on service 22:15

7 th May 2011

At 23:30 Crew were paged some from their beds to two consecutive red para flares set off in the Whitford area of the estuary. Horton, Burry Port and Tenby ALB were also tasked to search for person/s or vessel in the area. Swansea Coastguard received six consecutive 999 calls from public reporting the sightings. Following extensive search patterns by all lifeboats crews were stood down and returned to their boat houses around 4am.

Emergency Services involved were: Swansea Coastguard, Tenby ALB, Horton Lifeboat and Loughor Inshore Lifeboat.

30 th April 2011

17:30 a small yacht got into difficulties at the Estuary and capsized losing radio and bailing bucket to the tide. The Lifeboat crew were on scene preparing for the fun day the day after whilst they were tasked to assist the recovery of the crew and yacht. The yacht was capsized when the Lifeboat was launched and was righted by the casualty on scene the Lifeboat took the yacht in side tow and placed a crew member onboard to bail out water and to recover casualty and yacht to the pontoon.

22 nd April 2011

Crew were paged 20:10 when a passer by got concerned about a horse in the estuary. When the Crew turned up the horse had left the water safely. Crew stood down

19 th April 2011

At 17:00 Crew were paged by Swansea Coastguard to persons cut off by the tide at Machynys point The Lifeboat was stood down as Burry port RNLI were training in the area at that time.

16 th April 2011

Crew were paged by Swansea Coastguard at 16:15 to Vessel Orachorn that had suffered engine problems at the bridges. As the Crew turned up at the station a passing Jet Ski assisted the vessel into to mooring and slipway of the boating club where Crew recovered the boat and crew. The boat was washed and back on service within the hour.

Emergency Services involved: Coastguard, Mobile Coastguard Loughor Lifeboat.

13 th March 2011

The Crew had just finished training and washed and re-fuelled the Lifeboat and some were on their way home when the pagers went off for immediate launch by Swansea Coastguard at 13:39. Crew at the Lifeboat Station contacted Swansea Coastguard to log in for launch when Swansea Coastguard notified the Crew that a small plane was to have landed in the estuary south of the bridges. With no visual being found, Coastguard informed Crew the plane had gone down in Grovesend near the seven arches bridge. With the tide ebbing to a low point the Emergency Rescue Boat (inflatable) was taken with medical equipment by road to the crash scene. Whilst on route a Police Helicopter was seen landing near Waungron so the crew followed the position and it lead them to the crash scene.

The Lifeboat Crew assisted the Police and Fire Brigade in controlling spectators trying to get a closer look at the incident, whilst two Lifeboat Crew also Paramedics were involved in assisting the two casualties from the plane, sadly due his injuries one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Emergency Services involved: Police, Fire brigade, Coastguard, Mobile Coastguard and Loughor Inshore Rescue Search Team.

25 th February 2011.

At 19:00 Lifeboat Crew were paged by Swansea Coastguard to a person in distress on Loughor Road Bridge. Whilst the Crew were preparing the boat for launch the Person was talked down by police. The Lifeboat was washed down and ready for service by 19:30.
