Welcome to the website of the
Loughor Inshore Lifeboat. The Crew of the Loughor Inshore
Lifeboat are on-call 24 hours a day to help preserve life in and
around the River Loughor.
The Lifeboat is one of
around 80 independent Lifeboats set up around the country, who
are not part of the RNLI and receive no funding from them,
although we do work together on exercises and call-outs. On the
sub menus you will find all the information about the station,
including photos of the crew and the Lifeboat currently on
station, as well as a history of the station and also of the
call-outs that we have attended.
The next call-out could come
at any time, day or night, and the crew will always attend,
whether they are at home or in work. Our crew come from all
walks of life, we have students, a nurse, three mechanics, a
water sports instructor, and also a finance manager on the crew.
We currently have over 20 crew members who are trained to the
highest possible standard, so that when the call comes in, they
will respond in the best possible way.
We hope you enjoy looking at
the website and, if you are local to Loughor, or in South Wales
on holiday, you are more than welcome to visit us at the
station. We are there Sunday mornings, and also Wednesday
evenings, however please be reminded that the station is a
working station and, due to the nature of the work carried out,
it might not be possible to visit at certain times. We welcome
schools, and also associations on organised visits, when you
will be give a tour of the Station and the Lifeboat. You will
meet the crew and, whenever possible, you will be able to watch
the crew demonstrate the Lifeboat's capabilities on the water.

Anglers cut off by high tide at the
Roman wall. Two males and one female fishing off the roman Wall
became distressed by the rising high tide and called the
Coastguard for assistance. Crew attended and swiftly launched
the Lifeboat at 18:39 to attend the casualties who were
unfamiliar with the local tides and conditions. Following a
search it was identified as the Roman wall as the casualties
gave a bearing as looking down at the old castle at Loughor when
they meant they could see the steeple of the church in the
village. Loughor Coastguard contacted the casualties mobile
phone and identified they were up river and Casualties were
safely picked up and returned to the Life Boat station where
Loughor Coastguard interviewed the 3 Casualties and gave advice.
Boat back on service at 19:10
