Happy to Support Loughor Inshore Lifeboat
New Entrants
This advice to new
entrants should be read in conjunction with the
organisation's constitution, and does in no way replace it.
Loughor Inshore Rescue is
an independent inshore lifeboat service, and is a registered
charity. The lifeboat raises all its funds through its own
effort, and receives no help from the government or from the
R.N.L.I. (although we do work with them). The lifeboat is on
call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The Charity is managed by its trustees
through a committee; the operational running of the boat is
managed by the coxswain. In turn he currently has four
deputies responsible for training, maintenance, secretarial
duties, and equipment. Should the coxswain be
unavailable, his deputies will take responsibility for
operations.
The organisation relies entirely on the good will, dedication and hard work of its members. Team work is also a vital aspect of any organisation, no more than with the lifeboat. As you progress to become a full crew member, your team spirit should develop, at some time your fellow crew members may become dependent upon you, and vice versa.
The organisation is always looking for committed personnel. Although previous knowledge of lifeboats and search and rescue is not required, as training will be given, it is always an advantage. Your most important attributes will be your commitment, willingness and sheer determination to learn.
Each new entrant will undertake a 12 month probationary period to assess his or her suitability. The person will undergo reviews at 3 month intervals with the coxswain to assess his or her progress, culminating in a final review at the end of the 12 month period. The outcome of this review, together with an informal meeting with the Trustees, will establish the person's suitability to become a full crew member.
